Fleeting Moment, The Caudill Family

Our first CD, "Fleeting Moment" really paints a picture of who we are and represents quite a range of the musical interests in the family. Of course, no matter where the songs started out, they all end up as bluegrass when we are done with them. This CD was recorded at Valley West Studios in Paonia, Colorado in the spring of 1999.  We recorded this "live" with all voices and instruments recorded at the same time, as we would perform the songs on stage. Photography was by Loren Boyce at Silverton, Colorado during the Silverton Folk Festival in June 1999.

Good Morning Country Rain -- This is one that Kara and cousin Joyce used to sing when we were teenagers. We remembered it when we were sitting around a camp fire one night and decided to add it to our show, the girls put in a couple of harmony parts, and it has become one of our favorite songs!

Does Jesus Ever Cross Your Heart -- A good old gospel tune with a hot fiddle kickoff.

Arkansas Traveler -- With two fiddlers in the family, how could we not include this classic?

When You Say Nothing At All -- I have to say something about this one. Ashleigh has become my favorite lead singer of all time, and this song is one of the reasons.

Wayfarin' Stranger -- Kara's favorite song and one that she always gets requests for. I guess this is kind of a signature song for her. Beautiful fiddle back up and an amazing bass lead round this one out.

Jerusalem Ridge -- You really can't do a bluegrass recording without a Bill Monroe tune. Lucas put this one together, plays all of the fiddles and the mandolin lead.

Seminole Wind -- Lucas and Marcus played this one together in the living room a few years ago, but never got it really put together. Then one day Lucas said he wanted to sing this one, and we put it into the show the next day. When you hear it, you will know why.

Lonesome John / Home With the Girls -- A medley of minor Celtic tunes featuring fiddles, flute and mandolin. This one almost makes me cry every time we play it.

When God Dips His Pen - Ashleigh has gotten into the habit of letting Kara work out a song, have everyone learn it, work out all of the bugs, then Ashleigh steals the lead from Kara. That is what happened with this one.

C & O Canal -- Written by John Starling and recorded by the Seldom Scene, this song takes me back to my teenage years on the East Coast and all of the time I spent hiking, biking, camping, and having fun on the C&O Canal tow path. Every time I sing this, I re-live nights around the fire, the rain, the snow and the sunshine. Thanks for writing this one John.

Goin' Up -- This is a great three-part harmony gospel tune that you don't hear very often.

I've Just Seen a Face -- We played this one for quite a while before we found out this was a Beatles tune. I think they did this during their bluegrass period.

Back Up and Push -- An old standard fiddle tune that is starting to be played a little more. It really is quite a workout for the fiddlers (not to mention the rest of us!)

Sea of Life -- Another good old gospel tune that features Kara and Jessica on lead vocals and four part harmony on the chorus. This is one of our favorites to sing.
